The officers and directors of the NGA (all volunteers who offer their time and talent without pay) hope you enjoy your latest edition of the NGA News. The semi-annual publication, mailed to your home free of charge, is just one of the services provided to all NGA members.
Many golfers think the modest yearly fee to the NGA is nothing more than a fee for the handicap service. It’s much more than that! It is a membership in the NGA. Providing a uniform handicap service for the golfers in Nebraska is one of the more important responsibilities of the NGA. The NGA handicap system, called GHIN (Golf Handicap Information Network), is tied in nationally to the United States Golf Association. The logo of both associations appear on your membership card. By having one system throughout the state, you are guaranteed the opportunity to compete fairly with other golfers of any ability level, at your home club and other courses nationwide using the GHIN system. But your annual dues provide much more. If anyone at your club needs the assist- ance of the NGA office staff, you can reach the NGA office in Lincoln toll free at 1-800-728-2808.
The NGA is generous in its support of junior golf in Nebraska. No entry fees or green fees are charged to participate in any of the junior tournaments. YET A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF PRIZES (GIFT CERTIFICATES) AND TROPHIES ARE AWARDED ANNUALLY. Financial aid, as allowed by the USGA, is given to the Nebraska juniors who each year advance to the national championship. YOU CAN BE PROUD that some of your NGA dues help make golf available to all junior golfers.
The NGA fields several trained course rating teams equipped with electronic measuring equipment to provide -- without charge -- important course rating and measuring services for your club. The course and slope ratings are integral parts of the NGA handicap service and are vital to providing an accurate handicap for you and your club’s members.
YOUR NGA DUES, although modest when compared to other state associations, also help support other golf organizations around the state that share the common goal of making golf better for all in Nebraska. The Nebraska Women’s Amateur Golf Association, the Nebraska Section of the PGA and the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame organization all receive sizeable financial grants each year from your NGA dues to help them maintain their worthwhile programs.
Still another part of your dues goes to the NGA Scholarship Fund. The money, along with the interest earned from NGA Life Memberships provides annual scholarships to every college and university in Nebraska that plays an intercollegiate golf schedule.
Yes, your NGA dues help provide many more worthwhile things for the benefit of golf in Nebraska than just your computerized GHIN handicap service.
