The day before we played The Pearl, this area reported receiving five inches of rain. The Pearl, " The Jewel of the Beach" , was one of a very few courses that was opened. We hadn't planned on playing The Pearl, but were thankful that we had the opportunity to play a round. The course was very busy since it was one of the very few open, but our round moved right along.

We played the west course and it was spectacular. The fairways, greens and roughs were green and in great shape. Water comes into play on every hole. Holes-#15,-#16, and-#17 are surrounded on one or two sides by a marsh. This course has 4 par 5s and 5 par 3s. Pampus grass lines many of the fairway. This course has it all! It has woodlands, marshes, water and sand. It you have a bad shot on this course, be prepared it will cost you. You most likely will end up in the sand or the water. From the white tees, this course measures 6,250 and is rated 70.8. The slope is 127. Par is 72.

We would play The Pearl again on our next trip to North Carolina.

After our round, a golfer from Penn. that we were matched up with introduced us to Ella's in Calabash for great seafood. Ella's has a luncheon seafood special for-$4.25 you get to select from two seafood entrees, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and french fries. The service was fast and boy nothing is like fresh seafood!
