Highland Oaks Golf Course
Ponca, Nebraska

All-In-One Golf Source Review:
Highland Oaks is a nine hole courses located near the Ponca State Park...just a short drive north of Ponca, Nebraska.
This hilly course was built by Marty Johnson and designed by Monte Burki of Ponca. Highland Oaks has been opened for four years now. The clubhouse is perched on top of the highest point of the course.
Highland Oaks is in good condition. The fairways and greens are very well maintained. The greens are large. This is the only course we have played this year where my ball stuck when it hit the green.
Hole #9 (pictured below) is a very difficult par 4. The large green is aligned by water between the tee box and green. The flag placement made it most difficult to clear the water on the second shot.
The uniqueness of Highland Oaks is it's altitude. It makes you feel like you are playing on the moon. As you can see by the picture below it almost looks like a lunar environment. Holes #3 through #7 were built around existing trees. That part of the course is back on earth again!
Not this time...but last time we played Highland the wind blew like 100 mph. With little to stop it...the wind can definitely be a factor when playing Ponca.
