Calamus Area Golf Course
Burwell, Nebraska

All-In-One Golf Source Review - July 1999
In July we played played both Ord Golf Club and Calamus Area Golf Course in the same afternoon. The temperature was much more pleasant at Burwell. Calamus Golf Course is out in the open and the breeze felt great!!
Calamus Area Golf Course was in very good shape. There are no signs this year from the hail of 1998. The rough is still that! Would advise to stay out of there!! Calamus has several grass bunkers that come into play as well.

Calamus Golf Course was opened in 1994. At Calamus you have a chance of hitting into a cemetery if your tee shot on hole #3 par 3 is too long. You can drink from a windmill between hole #6 and #7. Or "check the cows" just across the road to the east from the green on #2.
This course is wide open now ..but in years to come with all the trees planted, it will be a difficult course. There has been some hail damage, you can tell the trees have been set back, but all and all the course is in good shape. The rough is just that! There seems to be patches between clumps of grass. Makes it difficult to get a good shot.
The greens on hole #1 and #4 are long and narrow. Hole-#5 is a par three surrounded on two sides by a pond. Hole #9 is a dogleg to the left. It takes you back to the Calamus Country Restaurant and Bar. This restaurant and bar is built of logs and gives you the setting of again being at a resort outside of the Cornhusker state.
Calamus is unique in it's scenery. The restaurant has great food. There's a couples scramble with a cream can feed Sunday, August 2, 1998. A two couples tournament is on August 30, 1998. The Legion Couples Tournament is September 12 and 13. So why not check out the Calamus Area Golf Course for a tournament?
